Beyond Beats and Rhymes

The documentary Beyond Beats and Rhymes is an important doc that a lot of the youth should watch, just so that they could learn something useful in the music they listen to and support. Watching this video I was able to relate to seeing the violence ans sexual harassment that is portrayed and played on the popular music videos showed on the mainstream TV channels. A quote from that stuck in my mind was, "if you a gay Nigga you ain't neva ganna be accepted in the rap industry." This was an important line to me because that's how much this music is solely based on these cliche ideas of what a real man should be and being an LGBT discriminates the opportunity for an individual to pursue a their dream. But, not ALL hip-hop is bad. There are positive hip hop singers out there that talk about more then just girls, dick, drugs, and killing. Better things such as, anti-war, love, family, and friendships. I thought the film maker Hurt was able to successfully get his message across that a large majority of this music has bad messages in them that don't seem to have a good lesson in them.
